Urban Gael living in the Scottish Highlands, Mary Ann's whole life has been music. Brought up in a tenement flat full of Gaelic song and classical music on the multi-cultural southside of Glasgow, she is now a musician, singer, broadcaster, conductor, composer and producer, working from Watercolour Music in Ardgour with her husband, producer and engineer Nick Turner. After more years of working with and encouraging others than she cares to mention, Mary Ann has stepped out solo - hard to believe that the album 'An Dàn' is her solo debut. "An absolute winner... Mary Ann's musical career in its many incarnations has been recognised with major awards, including the Concours Internationale de l'Harpe Celtique at the Lorient Festival Interceltique, the international Celtic Media Festival's Radio Presenter of the Year, and the coveted double gold at Gaeldom's premier festival, the National Mòd. Her first band, Cliar, won the all-time Best Album accolade at the inaugural Scots Trad Music Awards, and earned her a Saltire Award, With her tradition-bearer family, the Campbells of Greepe, the major biography and album project 'Fonn' won the Arts and Culture award at the first National Gaelic Awards.
Working with her husband and musical partner, Nick Turner, she has received many musical commissions, including 'Beul na h-Oidhche gu Camhanaich' (Dusk to Dawn) for Blas Festival, 'Aiseag' (The Ferryboat) for PRSforMusic Foundation's 1st New Music Biennial, 'Dubh Shneachd' for the International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences and Associate Artist for Aberdeen Music Hall. The commissions continue in 2018 with Scottish Natural Heritage and An Comunn Gàidhealach sponsoring a new work marking the National Mòd in Dunoon.
Her broadcast credits include BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio nan Gàidheal and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, and presentation and performance on BBC Scotland, BBC2, TG4 and BBC4, fronting major series and specials on world and traditional Scottish and Irish music. Her radio series, 'Sruth na Maoile', is the longest-running co-production in Gaelic radio.
